Consider this situation, you are at a lounge with your laptop and a beer by the side. A careless traveler knocks your beer onto your laptop and fries it. Then he says "Oh! I am so sorry and just walks away". What do you do in this situation?
When you are in public you know or should have known there is a very high risk of damage to personal property, especially in an establishment that serves alcohol.
You are responsible for the safety of your personal property.

I agree with the above. Accidents happen. If they intentionally did it.. That's another story, but.. Forget the bar setting.. Say it's your local Starbucks and alcohol isn't involved... Only overpriced coffee. Same deal.

Fluids and electronic gadgets are not to be placed together, ESPECIALLY in places where is high traffic, or when you have kids or animals.
Don't blame the strangers. Blame your common sense... or lack of it...

Personally, I would have stopped him, explained to him what happened, and gotten his information.
As to whether he would be held liable, you would need to clarify what you mean by "careless". We all have a duty to act with "reasonable care". If we don't and that results in property damage, we are responsible for that damage. Was this guy goofing off or stumbling around intoxicated? Texting on his phone? Carrying too many bags? In short, was he acting reasonable? Would you(or most people) have acted differently if you were him?
