However, if you sleep like a log, are low maintenance and easygoing - then sure. It's definitely a good way to get to know someone else fairly well.
haha. you know what that means.

A few years ago when the four of us were traveling, one snored so loudly that the other guy eventually decided to sleep in the car for the night.

I was bothered by it for a long time too, but eventually fell asleep.

You know the worst part? The big snorers usually fall asleep than anyone else!

When I was younger and single, I took a few group trips. I always paid for the single room.

Hell, some of the worst trips I've ever taken were shared rooms with people I knew - boyfriend of the moment.

Most people are saying "go for a room mate". Nope, to me the extra money would be well spent having my own space, being able to go to bed when I want, being able to walk around in my underwear, but above all, having a good night's sleep.

I'd like to know if you are traveling to Europe? If so, have you ever seen the motel rooms over there? Many of them have just enough room to walk around the bed (notice I said THE bed). It's not often that you'll find two beds in one room so you might end up in a queen sized bed, cuddled up beside someone who snores, farts, coughs, steals the covers, talks too much, hogs the bed, stays up late with the light on reading, etc, etc.

The bathrooms in Europe are the same, providing little to no counter space for cosmetics, hair dryers, curling irons, toothbrush/paste, shaving equipment, etc., so you'll be fighting for space in a 3 x 3 foot area to put your stuff.

Nope, even if you're NOT going to Europe and you're in roomy motel rooms, it's just not my idea of fun going with a stranger and risk having a horrible time.

The organizer of the group is the owner of a travel agency. And not surprisingly, the trips are through her travel agency.

Is this something that in and of itself is bad?
I' asking sincerely because I honestly don't know.

I haven't paid for anything yet.
I don't think that's a bad thing in itself because you would be facing the same dilemma anyway if you're going solo with another tour. The travel agent in your case was just smart enough to start a meetup group to generate business for herself.

I would definitely ask if the hotel offers a single room, which is quite common in Europe (if you're going to Europe that is) and it's called 'single room'. It's the smallest room a hotel has with only a twin bed, reserved specifically for those traveling solo, and you can book without paying extra (it's also usually the cheapest room since it's the smallest).

Otherwise, pay extra to have your own room. I know I won't have much patience to deal with someone else's BS after a long day of traveling.

I always pay the cost for my own room. It's worth it.

I travel with my sister(s) on domestic and international trips and cruises. We're all snorers. We feel perfectly entitled to get up and try to smother the other one. Pillows get thrown. People get rolled over in bed. "WOULD YOU FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SHUT UP!!!" gets snarled on a regular basis. We can do this to each other and get by with it because our elderly mother says we can't kill each other, no matter the provocation.

I can't do this to a total stranger. So, if I'm not traveling with one of the ladies who are my blood relations, I gladly pay extra for a room to myself.

Sounds a bit like youth hostelling, and I certainly wouldn't do that any more. It was the snoring that stopped me staying in youth hostels, you could guarantee that there'd be a snorer in every room.

If you're sharing a room with a stranger, you might find they have other habits you're not comfortable with, like sleeping in the nude, or night 'reactions' from the food they eat.

I am a female take a lot of escorted land tours. After being hot and sweaty and around the same people all day, there's no way I would share a room. I want privacy and will gladly pay for it. I'm a night owl, lightly snore, and there's never enough towels for 2 people to shower twice a day.
Twice I tried sharing a balcony room on a cruise and it was disaster. I ended up with hard core party animals who closed down the bar each night, and came into the room loud and drunk. One walked around the room naked; and the other made overtures to me. We had to get up early in the morning for breakfast and excursions.

I agree. I really don't like sharing such personal space, but will do so if I know you well.

I've considered traveling this way and given the choice I'd always opt for my own room. The space for sleeping and getting dressed and whatnot doesn't have to be a shared experience, that's what you do when you're awake and touring!
