France despite all its flaws is still massively more pleasant than your country. That's for sure.
Meh...I would say that about Southern France, but not Paris. Many adjectives come to mind to describe Parisians. 'Pleasant' is not in the top 25.
Back to the thread. Some people get overly anxious when they leave their comfort zones and seeing some violence on TV puts them over the top. There are Europeans who think that there are gun fights on every corner of US and riots in every town because that's what they see on TV and Youtube.
The reality is that neither place is very dangerous in comparison to the rest of the world.
I think the question was if anyone is changing travel plans due to riots in europe.
People answered all across the board- their personal feelings on the matter.
I don't know why this has disintegrated into belittling posters.
If Paris were really that bad, how come apartment still are sold for $1000+/sf? Even the Arab dominated districts such as the 18th are well above the price of expensive cities such as Boston or Los Angeles.
Some cities just end up hitting critical mass as 'safe haven' cities, driving prices through the roof- Miami real estate is highly distorted (compare local salaries to housing costs) because generations of rich Central and South Americans have seen it as a place to have a vacation spot and bolt hole because even during its drug heyday of the 1980s, it still had advantages over Bogota or San Salvador. I suspect the North Africans distort housing prices like the Chinese in Vancouver and parts of California, the Russians and a bunch more in London....
As for Parisians, I don't get the rudeness reputation. Spend 15 minutes learning manners for interaction in restaurants and shops, realize that the people around you are on their way to jobs, dentist appointments, their kid's football game, etc. and want to get there on time instead of having to walk around you or spending ten minutes giving you directions, and you might discover a lot of them are pretty pleasant. They're just trying to live their own lives on their own schedule and aren't there to simply take care of you.
I would feel safer in the USA or Canada right now. I went to Europe last year because it was necessary, not for leisure. But I would not recommend European tourism right now. Things in Europe have changed. There is far more terrorism and bombings now than in recent years.

Americans are so clueless.
Well, there are no figures for 2016 but most of what you're saying is due to "recency effect". We remember most clearly what has happened recently and tend not to remember the past - look at the 70's and 80's in "dunno what to put here"s graphic.

And I don't find it pleasant at all. Too anti-American for my taste. Yes, I get it, they hate Americans. Now I will spend my tourist dollars somewhere else.
I've never understood the "rude Parisian" stereotype. I always assume it comes from people who don't understand French etiquette (for example, walking into a shop and not saying hello to the owner/clerk).

Yes many people don't understand how important bonjour is for the French.
Also how rude it is to say bonjour to the same person the same day...
That's a very cavalier attitude. There have been recent riots in Sweden, as well as many rapes in what has been an open and welcoming society. If you want to attack Trump, then attack him in an appropriate manner, but don't belittle what's happening to women in Sweden.
