Went for a weekend trip with a friend of mine and we split a room - this is what I had to endure in the hotel, could not sleep for the entire night. Further the guy did not pay for shared expenses like gas, parking, cab rides etc. giving some BS excuse about how he has already spent more on his trip since he came from out of town and I am more local

There were only two guys I ever travelled with (except family and my gf) and with both I never had that kind of negative experience. One has to make very clear from the beginning that all costs will be split half and usually we booked everything in advance, such as rental cars, hotels, flights etc. with everyone paying his half. Oh, and when I was snoring due to a minor cold, I paid for the earplugs, too.

I mean, I would not want to go back to the times when I was travelling without gf, but I enjoyed those days a lot, and we really travelled to many places where I would not want to go alone, plus probably could have never afforded without someone paying his half. One has to carefully select hotels with twin beds though, lol.

I've only been on one solo trip thus far but I really like my own company. I enjoy not having to worry about going on someone else's schedule, rather or not they will have money, or if they like the same things. Much better to just go it alone.

I mean this dude was snoring so loud it sounded like one of those old Freight Trains from the late 1800s.

I love solo travel! Also, people annoy me, so it's a win/win.

One can travel with another and still have a separate room, eliminating this sort of stuff?

That said, I do like travelling alone sometimes, mostly because at times I really like to have 100% control over my schedule throughout the day.

Totally agree. No BS alone. You deserve about 7638689846536765888 rep points but instead I gave you one.

I've been traveling alone since my mid-30s and I'm close to 70. It works out best for me. I have had friends where it worked out o.k., but unfortunately some trips were more the nightmare kind!

When the bad trips outweigh the good, back to taking longer trips by myself, or with my sister! I like to cruise, which she won't do, so then I go by myself and will not be talked into sharing a cabin. I would rather pay extra for my solitude!

I travel alone a lot but I prefer to have a partner. I've never experienced a bill splitting issue, but the person I travelled with last expected me to do all the work - plan excursions, make decisions, figure out transportation, etc. She would sit on her bed in the morning and wait for me to lead. Pretty irritating.
