I'm searching for hotel rooms for two adults and one child (1 year old). Some hotels are showing up "exceed max guest" for standard rooms with a king size bed. I'm confused, are hotels requiring two beds for couples with a kid?

Are you actually entering the number of guests? I never do. I don't think anyone will care, as long as it doesn't look like you're trying to cram 8 people into one room.

Only enter two adults.

Don't. I rarely bother to change the number of guests field. Despite always showing one guest, no one has ever batted an eye whether I truly had one person in the room or 4 (in the case of two queen beds)

Well, in some regions for fire and evacuation procedures the hotels need to know the exact number of guests but barely anyone is checking. I remember we used to travel with 3 guys in a twin bed room with one inflatable bed from walmart back in the days.

The hotel is liable for someone who is a guest, and not liable for unqualified guests. If someone gets hurt, and the innkeeper-guest relationship didn't exist the person in this circumstance would be considered a trespasser and the innkeeper would not be liable.

I would not include the child in the reservation. sort it out at check in. Are they asking childs age when inputting occupants? if not, just dont bother adding it.

I know some search engines charge more for children, even when booking just a double. A family of 4 can share 2 full size beds pretty easily.

Sometimes I don't understand why people need to be 100% honest just to cause more unnecessary trouble.
