We've definitely been on the "new location" side as a family. We've gone all over the US (NYC, San Francisco, Seattle, Wyoming, New England, Florida, Philly, Las Vegas, etc.) and even into Canada a few times. If I ever have kids, I'll be the same way with them, so they can be exposed to as much as possible and have a range of very different travel memories to look back on.
I like to explore new places, but I also like to revisit places that I found very nice. So I usually try to combine those two... like I have already been to (random example) coastal northern California, but haven't been to Lake Tahoe or Sonoma valley, then I try to manage to revisit the strechtes of the coast I liked for a couple of days, but also include some new places. Usually, that works out pretty well - revisiting is always relaxing as you know where to go, where to eat, etc. while exploring new places is rather exciting.
I am mostly a travel wherever there is a great deal, especially if it is an error fare. Some deals have taken us back to to the same location and others have allowed us to visit completely new destinations.
For us, it's a little of both. There are certain places that we return to again and again when we want to chill and relax (Oregon and Ireland, looking at you!) but at least once every year we venture somewhere new.
So what is your vacation style? Different places each trip, repeat trips, or a combination of both?
For certain places, you can't possibly see all there is to see in one trip. Heck, I've been going to New York City for decades and there are still so many things I haven't gotten around to seeing.
The same would certainly be true for other cities like London, Tokyo and Paris.
