Hello everyone. First time posting, so here goes. Me and BF turning 50 at the end of the year. We are trying to plan a vacation for the both of us. I am more of a beach and a drink in my hand type where he's more of the sight seeing type. We have both agreed on the sand, beach, and relax with a drink by the beach vacation. I was looking for some ideas from the experienced travelers out there. Truth be told, we do not vacation a lot. Most of our vacations have been inland. We would like to look into the all inclusive for budgetary reasons. My oldest daughter just got married and I helped her out to say the least. We would like to plan around but not subjected to March/April 2018. Have not researched the time of year as far as hurricane season goes, but Caribbean, Mexico is what most people at work have suggested. If anyone could pass along any ideas or experiences, on the do's/don'ts, or any other destinations, it would me much greatly appreciated. Thanks again and have a great day.

Cruises are fun. If you pick a southern Caribbean route you will need to leave from Puerto Rico but that can be all part of the fun. If you have never cruised before I suggest a 7 day to start. Sort of get your sea legs as it were. Many to choose from.

I had a fabulous time in Jamaica at an adults only resort. They have several locations on the island, some near sightseeing such as Dunn's River Falls. VERY relaxing, laid back, vacation. I fell in love with the island and the people. Let me know if you want the resort name.

Heading west?

Cook Islands! (the non-tourist islands).

I would go to Maui, you can book a flight, condo/hotel and even rental car at Costco Travel online for $2,300 and up, from here. Naturally it could be more if you are farther east. Last time we went we were right on the beach. Plenty of sightseeing there, with a big difference in scenery and even weather depending on where you are on the island. The beaches are not nearly as crowded as Honolulu.

Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Best of both worlds...sun sand and adventure.

You're not saying where you are. If you do a cruise on the west coast, from LA, and do Mexico from the Pacific side, you don't have to worry about hurricanes.

Do the Carnival Cruise Mexico cruise - there are different options. I took one - the Mexico Riviera cruise and it was fun. Entertainment on board, shore entertainment options, you can snorkel at Cabo San Lucas, etc.

If you are a beach and drink kind of person, then the destination really doesn't matter. Just pick somewhere close and inexpensive. It is not like Tahiti would be so different from Mexico.

Aruba is a fun (and safe) island with plenty of laying on the beach and looking at the water, all the usual water activities, as well as plenty of land-based activities and places to explore (hiking and parks, Segway, trike rentals, ATV rentals/tours, casinos, music/dancing, shopping (go to the Dutch grocery stores!), horse riding, Jeeps, etc). I really enjoyed it because of that, and the fact that it's safe and small. We had a rental car and explored every inch of that island.

While you will be safe in terms of hurricane season which doesn't start until June 1st, you are looking at the time of year when many Spring Breaks are occurring so you will have to deal with families and partying college students. While I'm a little biased, you may want to consider the Cayman Islands as they have less of a party crowd compared to other islands. You could even take a side trip to Cuba from Cayman or you could even just do Cuba as your destination since it would meet both of your preferences.
