Thought of that. Hardly the place that someone from the Midwest would visit on a class trip.

Is there a link to anything that might be considered a reliable source?
The Journal Sentinel is the largest circulated newspaper in Wisconsin & it has won Pulitzers so yes, it is a real newspaper.

Resurrecting this Thread...

We just returned from a week in an all-inclusive resort about 30 mins south of Cancun:
Had a wonderful multi-gen Whole Fam vacation, didn't get sick, didn't get mugged or kidnapped, and we all had a damn good time.

Having been to Cancun, (Zona Hotelera), several times hosting sales performers/spouses, but back in the '90s, I must say that Cancun and many points south through the Rivera Maya are much different than my memories due to the development and growth.

We did several off site 'excursions', we relied on the transportation arm of the resort vs cabbing it, we remained 'aware' of surroundings and people, but never encountered an untoward moment. These were day time activities...

The Federales were everywhere on the streets, and saw many cars/trucks/vans pulled over for some reason.

While our resort was gated/walled, it was hardly impregnable and the beach goes on from Cancun North to Belize to the South, so it wasn't like we were a 'fortress'...

The Federales, in full swat gear, rode dirt type m'cycles up and down our/adjoining beaches a couple times a day, and maybe at night.

The resort we stayed at sent out a blast email in response to the doctored/Mickey'd drink situ before we got there and assured us that their bevs were legit, untainted, and that the joint was 'safe'.

It was brutally hot & humid, as in SE/SW FL Summer hot, but we enjoyed our stay, the service was outstanding, food was OK to very good, and it was a good Family get together for my big 70th.

Anecdotal, I realize, and we were not Pollyanna about the situ, but no harm/no foul and we all made it back to our respective homes in good stead.
My 50Cts...

^^^ What great pictures!!!! We've only been once and we stayed at Live Aqua. IF we were to go again, we'd only do another 5 star resort
