I will have the week before Christmas available for a vacation. I am a solo female traveler. I think I'd like to find a nice beach that I can walk on without being too cold (I don't mind wearing a light jacket...no bikinis for me...those days are over ). Any ideas?
I'd like to be somewhere with quiet, serene beaches vs. large crowds. But I'd also like to have some amenities like a grocery store nearby. I'm willing to fly to get there, money is not the main consideration, but safety is important. I am open to international destinations, but because I only have a week, places that would take longer than 5 or 6 hours to get to are probably not worth the effort (I live in TX).

SWA is now running Flights to Caicos and Turks for $59 (out of FLL)
When you have some more time... Fly to Sunshine or Gold Coast Australia in Dec!
Gold coast airport is walking distance to the beach! and there is a Dominos and Pizza Hut on the way (affordable food).
Bring your Kite Board gear, it is EZ to check.
Honestly, if you just want to maybe walk and read a book, I would consider Southern California. Our beaches here may only get a crowd then at like the boardwalk but just tranquil beaches won't be an issue. I've only been to the Bahamas and Caribbean a couple of times but cannot really recommend anything as I haven't been there in years.
I wouldn't overlook Hawaii either. Yes there are more crowds in the winter, but usually tourists end up contained to just the very well known areas. I've been to many places in Hawaii in the winter and usually had beaches to myself.

Any recommendations on specific areas of SoCal? I'm from Northern CA so extremely familiar with that area, but never really spent a whole lot of time in SoCal except for San Diego. Perhaps one of my family members could come for a visit.
HI is one of only three states I haven't visited so I'm intrigued. Is there a particular island you would recommend for a solo female traveler?

Isle of Palms outside of Charleston SC. We rented a house there one Winter while I started a new business. Just as you described your ideal location.
