I don't think they lose many tourists. UK was never in the Schengen area and people are used to it. For EU citizen, the European ID card is enough, no passport or visa necessary. And overseas tourists are usually well prepared and would not stay away from London just because of one more passport control.

I had Schengen visa and Swiss visa (at that time Switzerland was not a member).
I have been to France, Italy, Austria etc but never been to Britain though I'd like to. Just too lazy to apply for another visa.
However, I understand those who are really interested will not mind the extra paperwork.
