Sometimes I start a week ahead and sometimes I pack the night before. I never wait until the morning I am leaving like my husband does. I never know when he plans to load the car and I don't want to hold things up. My suitcase goes on the bottom because it is waterproof and we have encountered wetness on the road. I pack every thing I can and leave my traveling outfit hanging together in one place. I am not a morning person.

I usually pack the night before and really finish the morning of my departure. But it's easy for me because I usually only take a small duffel bag of clothes, even for a long trip. Then I usually have a small messenger bag for my gadgets/accessories, toiletries, etc.

For me, travel is all about the journey, not the destination. Planning/packing is part of the journey.

As for the actual packing, that takes place the day before -- get the laundry done, any last-minute ironing, and put stuff into the suitcase and the carry-on bag.
Me too.

I usually pack the day before if I have to leave early the next day for the trip.

Short business/vacation trip = 2 days prior.

International trip/long duration trip = 3 days prior.

for a week in the Caribbean or on a cruise or when I travel to Europe, I start out sorting things a month in advance.

I actually PACK the clothes the day before my departure date.

I make a list of everything I'm taking. I list outfits for each day, according to the climate and activities. There is no "I might want to wear either this or that" I make all the decisions before I pack. I keep the clothing very basic, like white, black and khaki, so just about everything works with everything else.
I assemble everything and pack the day before, except toiletries.
