It's $85 and involves applying online then scheduling a time to go into the PreCheck office to be fingerprinted. And then it takes weeks to get your Known Traveler Number. You haven't flown since you were 3 ... unless you're planning a lot of trips, it's definitely NOT worth it.

PreCheck lines are faster than gen pop but can still be quite long. I spent 30+ minutes in a PreCheck in Seattle last year and that's no fluke event

" I don't want to use one of the airport wheelchairs because I am a younger guy and I feel it is demeaning......." nice, but get over it and be comfortable as you won't be on the plane unless you are flying FC or Business ! Global entry or other fast screening would be advisable too!
