I would second San Diego or Las Vegas. You should be able to get cheap flights to LV. Don't know about flights to SD.

Get to LAS (usually a cheap fare) THEN You can get CHEAP flights from LAS to SAN (Southwest ($42) Spirit ($25.50) Spend the $42 with SWA and assure free changes in case something BETTER comes up...

SAN is GREAT, fly down for the day, airport is near city, waterfront, and Oldtown, no rental car required. Go on a Sunday and attend the free Organ Recital in Balboa Park (2pm), the international village is open next door to Spreckels Organ Hall (noon -5pm)

I love Aruba. I was scheduled to take my family to Beaches in Turks and Caicos at the beginning of November.
When that got cancelled, Aruba was the first place I turned. Every time I have been there, the weather has been good. I have even been there in the "rainy season". But when it rains there, it rains for 5 minutes and then the sun comes out again. The trade winds blow the storms out as quickly as it blows them in. And it is usually way south of the hurricane's path.

Nowhere near Aruba...Aruba is just off the coast of South America. You may be thinking of Anguilla?
