I’ve recently wondered about this. Obviously, it’s a personal choice how you classify having visited a place.

So far, all of my international travel has been via direct flights. I don’t have any international layovers under my belt.

I’ve been to Cancun, Mexico; Punta Cana, DR; La Fortuna, CR (I flew into San Jose); Barcelona, Spain; Nice, France; Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Recently, I purchased world and US push-pin maps. I’ve been tracking where I traveled. I have several US locations that I’ve only driven through or flown into an airport to drive to another city. (For example, I flew into FLL and drove to Miami.) I have no idea if Ft. Lauderdale should get a pin. :P (I didn’t pin San Jose, Costa Rica since I only flew into it to get to La Fortuna.)

Interesting discussion, OP.

Many years ago when I was an apartment house broker I had a guy from Reno who wanted to buy a 40 unit building I was representing. We settled on the terms and he said he would draw up the contract and send it in the mail. I was young & eager then and said, "I'll fly up, meet me at the gate". So I drove to the airport, hopped a flight to Reno and when I stepped off the plane, there he was. He had changed his mind. So I turned around and got on the flight back. So now if people ask if I've been to Reno, I say, "Yes....for 15 minutes".
