And if so for how long

I don't think I have properly , the closest I would say is when I missed a train and had to wait 2 hours for another one

I was stranded with my mom for 3 days in a very small town in Ohio waiting for a part for my car. This was 20 years ago and I can't imagine it would happen today. Talk about hell - crappy motel - in one room with my mom after already spending a week with her - only one diner in the town.

Years ago, we were on a road trip and our VW van broke down in SLC. We stayed for three days at a KOA while it was being fixed. We didn't plan it this way, but sitting in the tent we had a direct view of the Temple. The morning we left, the tent was COVERED with earwigs, like a Biblical plague. Couldn't wait to leave.

man did that change in a hurry when the weather started getting rough and our tiny ship was tossed.

Yep, a couple of times when we used to fly on passes, which meant we were the last ones to make the flight, we got stranded. one time in NYC and once in Denver. Oh, I think we also got bumped in Vegas. We have often had to wait for another flight but to me, as long as we got out that day it really wasn't being stranded.

Stranded on the west coast for 4 or 5 days when planes stopped flying on 9/11.
Stranded in Nepal due to weather reasons when the puddle jumpers couldn't fly into the small towns in the Himillayas, for like 3 or 4 days, almost had to walk-out from trails back to the main roads.

Several times. I used to travel for work a lot. Several 2-3-4 day stints due to weather and one week in Europe when the volcano was erupting in Iceland.

Stranded in AK due to weather (days)

Stranded today in Malaysia due to BAD traffic, Heavy Rain, and no ride...

Stranded often (days), but... survived and eventually got home / to a destination. (Truckdriver in Mtn States, rancher, farm kid, international traveler, adventurer, (take a LOT of chances))

Our Favorite "Stranded' experience was in a terrible storm in Pyrenees. A french innkeeper took our family in and woke his wife up to cook for us. They had just built a new Inn, and the beds were not set up yet, so we did that for them and enjoyed a very comfortable "First Night".

Of course they would take no payment the next day...

A group of 5 older friends (All age 65+) were dropped at a remote lake in AK for a 1 week raft / fishing trip. They lost their rafts in the rapids the first day and spent 2 weeks hiking out (and were eventually found)...

Yep, Few times..

Here is one.

Driving back from a working/ski vacation in Colorado back to NJ everything was ok then it started to Sleet, Right around the Colorado/Kansas state line (I70) , Kept drive for a while "It was not that bad" Near Brewster KS, Going about 10mph I had to start driving around fire hydrants assembles 10' long masses of steel that were being dropped off some truck as he went down the road. Said that was enought... Got off at the Colby KS exit. Pulled into a dinner, to rest and make a plan.

Well I stopped to late, every hotel room in town was fill, Next town was probably 2+hr drive, and was told it was probably full also. Figured I would sleep in the car, run the heat when I got cold. I gave a check in call to home (was 19 at the time), Told my mom what happened, and where I was. Gave her the phone number for the pay phone (Remember those). While I was eating dinner, the phone rang. Seem mom knew someone who knew someone in Colby KS, About 5 minutes later got a call from a real nice family, They drove down at like 10pm at night to the dinner and "got" me, I followed them back to there house, It took about 36hrs for the interstate to be passable. Nicest people in the world. I was the kid of a friend of a friend that someone knew... and they took me in.

Kept in touch with them over the years. Years later, they had moved to Dallas Texas, and I was passing thru DFW, and scheduled a "Long" connection, and we meet up and I took them to Lunch.

Cruising on sailboats? Sure. All the time. I've been fogged in for 3 days. I've caught the remnants of a tropical storm where I was stuck for 2 days.

On airplanes, I missed my connection and was stranded at O'Hare on December 26th and didn't fly until noon the next day. I had to pay for the hotel but United got me a cheap rate at the airport hotel.

I've been caught up in French air traffic controller strikes a couple of times. Once, Air France put me up at a nice hotel in Montparnasse that used to be Le Meridien Montparnasse with meal vouchers for 5 days before tossing me on a bus to Brussels.

I've been stranded connecting in Philly a few times.
