I didn't see this posted on this forum when I did a search so I'll do it now.

Before you buy travel insurance , check with your credit card company to see if it's included on your card.
I have Citi card and just this Fall we had to cancel our Alaska trip because my wife had to have cataract surgery because of an ulcer on her eye. I knew that our card provided this service and we canceled just a month before we were to leave and got the full amount of the trip returned. Less the travel agents fee which was minimal. Just want to put this information out so you can save a few bucks.

Good info... and perhaps make sure that it's not just trip cancellation insurance but covers medical issues abroad - the largest group of medical issues during vacations are due to traffic accidents. These days I get a policy that not only covers medical air evac but also will cover "repatriating my remains" in case of the worst case scenario so my family isn't out the $$ & the confusing details of international transport.

Also if you do buy it you can check outside vendors and often get better rates and terms.

Bingo. We don't leave North America without $500K in medical coverage.

Bingo. The only time I've taken cruise ship insurance was 30 years ago before I knew better. Now it's research on insuremytrip.com And yes, we've had occasion to make a claim (admittedly, two small ones).

Travel (health) insurance (~$125/ month) is often my PRIMARY health insurance ($2800/ month A(?)CA)

They are not keen on that, but.... I play within the rules.

I have never planned a trip more than one month out, so never needed to cancel (yet).

Our RTW was ... " It is getting kinda cold here, Where do you want to go next?"

I just look for bargain fares.

Yesterday I found a SAME DAY fare that was $49 for a 4 hour flight. Poof, GONE!
