So my opinion, as a resolute non beach goer, why travel halfway around the world & then put in more time to travel to some nice beach somewhere & then spend 3 days of a 2 week vacation - 2 days in the air & the better part of 2 more days traveling south to this beach & spend 3 days there - 1/2 of your vacation time is already spent on sand & surf, why not just do that closer to home? Sand & surf is great in Mexico & the Caribbean & you don't have to invest all that time traveling to a completely different & exotic culture on the other side of the earth that you are only giving short shrift to getting a tan.

Save your money & go to a beach elsewhere closer or spend more time in Thailand meeting the locals.

Wasting 2 days traveling isn't necessary, can take the night bus all the way from Chiang Mai. Get the luxury coach and justify cost by saying didn't need to pay for a hotel that night.
