If you are not wealthy, either Americann, Mexican, Latin American, Asian, and European, etc, and for some reason you have already visited Chicago, maybe for work, or you attended school.in the Midwest....
And your travel budget is limited, is it actually worth it to spend the money to visit New York City??
Well, not certain I understand the intent of this post, other than there was a similar reverse post. But while Chicago is definitely the "2nd City", it doesn't nearly match NYC in importance with not only landmarks, but business, arts, architecture, and culture.
The obvious answer to the question is "of course it is". New York is a must-see city for anyone traveling to the US, or even for those who live here already. BTW, you don't need to stay at a Manhattan hotel to visit NY. Stay outside the city and use great public transit to get in. This isn't that complicated.
Well, yea. NYC in total is probably the most international city in the world and that among other things makes it worth a visit regardless of where you've been before.

Right, this is what we did. Our Hotel was in Jersey and we caught transit to the City every day doing our stay, But our Hotel was in Jersey
Actually this thread makes more sense than the thread I'm parroting.
Why? Chicago gets more domestic tourists than New York, way cheaper for someone from the Dakota's, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Michigan, pretty much most of the country, to vvisit big city Chicago instead of big city New York.
Same goes for international tourists/residents etc who happened to visit Chicago before going to New York, this actually does occur.

Chicago is not a "big" city in the same sense NYC is. NYC is 3x the population size of Chicago. So in the context of NYC, Chicago is not a big city.
Answer the question. Let's say you are from Ecuador and got a scholarship to go to UIC.....would going to New York City make sense, for your limited budget?
Or would Chicago have given you enough American big city Skyscraper sights? Would it really be worth it to spend limited finances to visit NYC? And if so, why?
OK, but are you not contradicting yourself here? You say "yes", "depending on budget", but then you keep asking the same question. The definition of insanity? (I post that in jest, of course).
The answer you are looking for, of course, is New York is a must-see if you can afford it. I don't think that is very complicated.
