Amsterdam. We spent some time there before and after a river cruise then 4 more days after driving around Ireland for 17 days. We were not ready to leave and are planning a longer visit in the future.

An amazing city full of wonderful people (as long as they are not on a bicycle - they are very aggressive when riding). So much to see, so many places to visit.

We travel differently. This year will be a month in Italy. Next year a month in ? The year after... you get the idea. We will continue to the same until one of us (likely me) can no longer do that. We are both 70 this year.

Then travel the U.S. until we can't.

Then stay around home and play bridge every day, lol.

Did you find my fare with Virgin Atlantic?

Amsterdam is definitely more convenient but not worth a lot of time there.
Thanks, I finally got the Virgin Atlantic flights to work. I wasn't using the multi city option, but rather one way each way.

I'm not so sure about having to stop in London for just 12 hours though. That would require a hotel in London for just a few hours. I would rather just fly back and have a full day in London or something.

It would be easier to fly out of IAD though.

American has a sale on non stop flights to Shannon, Ireland from Philadelphia for under $600 a person that should work for your dates. From there you could take a short flight to London.

Multi city option is cheaper than buy one way separately internationally most of the time.

Regarding transit in London overnight, I would just find a very cheap hotel nearby LHR, no reason to go into the city. Certainly, you need to factor that cost when comparing to other options ( Norwegian extra fees, cost of getting to EWR vs IAD, cost of parking,etc....)

Rarely, it is better to buy 2 separate one way tickets. I saw it with some low cost airlines.

Another thing, United has nonstop IAD-LHR for as little as $711 round trip in July. Then just try to fill in the intra Europe hops with a cheapo like Ryan Air or the train.
