I am planning on a trip on Hawaiian airlines to Taipei with a stopover in Honolulu. I have AAdvantage. I am curious as Hawaiian Airline no longer operate the Honolulu to Taipei portion so the website would book me on one of their partner airlines should I book a flight from LAX to Taipei via Hawaiian Airlines with a stop in Honolulu. Just curious though if that partner is not a oneworld member would I only be able to earn AAdvantage points only on the portion(s)actually operated by Hawaiian airlines or a oneworld partner. Or can I earn miles for the entire trip since I booked with Hawaiian Airlines?

One concern I have that is not very clear is that I heard rumors that since 2015 American Airlines change the rules so that not only is it not possible to book Hawaiian airlines operated flights on AA anymore unlike in the past it’s no longer possible to accue AAdvantage miles on Hawaiian airlines flights between Hawaii and mainland US? Is this true?

Thanks for your answer.

It seems tougher and tougher to know how many miles if any you will get by booking. As booking class letter these days determine you getting miles at all and at what percentage is pretty much hidden while you book. It appears to get full miles credit for each actually mile you fly these days you will need to buy a pretty expensive ticket. This is unlike the situation 10 years ago where you gain miles for flying an airline without so many strings attached.

It appears AAadvantage no longer earn or redeem miles for Hawaiian flights between the mainland and Hawaii. Only for flights between Hawaiian islands or Hawaii and Asia.

Interestingly Hawaiian do cross book China airlines for flights to Taipei, since Hawaiian no longer flys to Taipei in their own planes even though China airlines of Taiwan ROC is not an official partner of Hawaiian airlines nor is it a Oneworld member. Things do get interesting at this point.
