Had layovers in all of the above. I did like the Club lounge I stayed at in Minneapolis quite a lot, I think it was a Delta Club. But I would look at the planes you're flying in as more important given a 1 hr layover isn't time to do squat.

The other factor is the climate at the time you fly, for example, I wouldn't want to fly through Minneapolis or Detroit if the weather's predicted as bad....same for Atlanta, I've been stuck there due to thunderstorms and because it's such a busy airport, you will be delayed longer.

I don't think Atlanta is that bad for an ordinary domestic to domestic connection- the 'ribs and spine' layout make it pretty easy to get around in despite the size. (The far end of Terminal 3 at LHR to immigration when coming off a red eye flight, now that's an awful hike) And sometimes you get lucky with the gates- the Spousal Unit was flying back from Chicago yesterday, and it turned out to be the same gate and even the same plane for his ORD-ATL flight and then his ATL-VPS flight two hours later.

I would take American instead. They have five nonstops a day.

One hour doesn't matter. You'll be in the airport the entire time anyway.

1 hour connection, out of Charlotte. ATL will likely have a few delays, but that will be both coming in and leaving. SFO will be less likely to get delayed, and a good chance you would have a long walk between gates. DTW is a nice airport, but likely you will end up at one end of the terminal and have to make it all the way down to the other end. But a bit out of hte way.

Minneapolis probably the best. Less likely to have delays, and the best concessions. Just do a good job checking terminal maps ahead of time so you know where gates are. SLC is a pain IMHO. 1 hour is rarely enough time if you have a delayed flight. Not a pleasant terminal, either. You are likely to be on a Regional to SFO, too, so will have top change concourses. But, flights are often a little cheaper through there.

Before 9/11, SLC used to be awful to navigate because of all the friends and family sending off Mormons heading out for their mission. It’s really easy now that they can’t get past Security.

I don’t connect in cold weather airports in the winter. Too much risk of snow. The mountains get snow in Utah but SLC doesn’t get much.

That's not a layover, that's a quick connection. Choose on the shortest travel time alone.
