Social media has no impact for me on where I want to travel.

Having a trustworthy gps on my smartphone affected my decisions much more where to travel than social media. I have no interest in traveling to Disney World or to any foreign country. I have zero sense of direction lol. I prefer to stay local and support my State’s economy

I guess Craigslist was an early form of 'social media.' Having online friends on the Craigslist forums gave me the incentive to visit them in places I probably would never have seen otherwise - Louisville, Vancouver Island, San Diego, rural Arkansas - and we've travelled together, and shared new places together - the Grand Canyon, the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook NM, the best burgers ever in Arthur NE, the Columbia River Highway.

I'd always wanted to travel, and knowing there'd be someone where I was going who I at least knew online gave me the confidence to go to the US for the first couple of times. The more I saw, the more confidence I gained to start travelling around completely on my own.
