Wherever I decide to stop when I'm travelling for work.

My proper vacation is in early October when the crowds are smaller, the costs are less, but the weather should still be decent and the days should be long enough...I'm leaning towards something in Oregon.

October water temperature at Myrtle Beach is still mid-70's. That's 10 degrees warmer than August in Maine where the French Canadians spend all day swimming in Speedos. LA, where you have the Beach Boys and the most recognized beach/surfing scene in the country, the water temperature rarely gets out of the 60's.

I didn't realize 75F was winter parka and a wool hat & gloves weather.

75 is not parka weather (not even close) but its not swimming weather either. Even if the ocean is in the mid 70s in October (somehow doubt it as when I lived in FL the water started getting chilly around October) if the high that day is only 75 you will feel way colder swimming because there's no hot air to counteract the water. Also, no one is really tempted to go swimming on a day in the 70s. 80s and 90s, you betcha. Not 70s and def not 60s and 50s.

Nowhere except for Florida for my birthday in July. Maybe a day trip to Duluth in late summer or early fall.

So far, I've been to Japan, Guam, San Diego, and Maui. I will be traveling to Minnesota for a wedding later this month, and likely back to Japan later this summer.
