Finding a travel partner....
Does anyone know the best way to find a travel partner?
I would like to travel to an island or to the Carolina's to the beach sometime in May. I am a single, professional woman in her 40's and will not travel alone. I do not have friends that are in a position to travel.
Does anyone know any resorts that will match you up with a roommate? I love Cancun and have never been to North/South Carolina and would love to go there. I am open to other places as well as long as its warm (-: and relaxiing.
Suggestions???

My aunt has traveled all over the world "alone" yet with a mate. She uses a travel company that offers packages all over the place and finds travel mates for those who don't have them. I can't tell you the company because right now my aunt is in China on one of their packages :-) When she returns, I can find out.

I know of someone who travels from time to time, though not often, but he goes solo...and he's single, but would have to consult him before playing 'cupid'.
Personally, I prefer alone, going where I want, when, do what and when Im good and ready. Im very spontaneous, dont always plan things too far ahead and couldnt do any of that otherwise.

Travel Alone
I prefer to travel alone myself but for someone who doesn't, may I suggest
singles travel clubs? When I was a travel agent I worked with some in my community. Typically, they can be found in churches, social clubs, etc. I would much rather know the person I am travelling with before setting out on an adventure. I have heard horror stories from past clients who found another single person only to find out these people were bad companions. Good Luck!!

Travel Companies for single travelers
Well, my aunt has returned from her 3-week China trip and had a fantastic time (despite the Tibet problem).
Here's her travel company info:
Graceful2 ...
The name of the travel company is Grand Circle Travel. They run large-group travel. The sister company, called Overseas Adventure Travel (OAT), is the small-group (no more than 16) (which is my aunt's preference for travel). Both companies cater to mature travelers (usually 50-70+) so there are usually no children in the group.
The OAT web page is:
http://www.oattravel.com.
Grand Circle is:
Grand Circle Travel : International Travel Vacations, Tours and River Cruises
DM is you decide to book with them because with her code both of you can get discounts.

I travel alone mostly, I wouldn't travel with someone I don't know well. Different tastes and concepts about fun can pretty much ruin your trip. I love history/culture and like to visit sites of historical and archeological significance and also museums. I know many people do not like that. I once went somewhere with a "friend", I wanted to go to the art gallery and museums but she hated the idea so we didn't go

I always travel alone, for all the reasons stated above. My thought is: if you insist on traveling with a stranger, I would profoundly recommend you take every safety precaution imaginable to avoid being robbed.

Exactly, I don't know how traveling with a stranger would be safer then traveling alone?
I know that there are many tour groups out there that might be good for you. I know my Grandpa did a lot of traveling with groups from the university in his town. He traveled all over the world with these groups. Many larger travel agencies also put together packages that you could sign up for. You would still be traveling 'alone' but your hotel and tours would be with the group.
