I need to attend a conference in Vancouver in early May. I'm looking for place to stay which is convenient (by foot or public transportation) to the Sheraton Vancouver Wall Center. Any recommendations? I'm paying the bill for this one, so would prefer to spend less than downtown rates. B&Bs and others are OK, but I don't know the city or transportation.

All advice welcome. Thanks!

I'm assuming you mean Vancouver, B.C. TripAdvisor.com is always my most useful resource -- it's real reviews from real travelers of their actual experiences and opinions.

This link is for the Hotels page for Vancouver, B.C.:

and this one is for the B&Bs:

My personal recommendation is Ashby House, a B&B. If you check the reviews, you'll see why people love this B&B, at a pretty decent price (limited real estate in Van makes for high taxes and high prices). Vancouver is a crowded, although lovely, city, so the busses are very frequent and go up and down most streets so everything is convenient. The Sheraton Wall Centre is on Burrard St. which has several busses serving it.

If you use Mapquest you'll see that Ashby House at Bute & Nelson is walking distance to 1088 Burrard at Burrard and Comox -- two long blocks and one standard block. Actually, walking from Ashby House would be a lot faster than taking a bus. The walk should take you 10 to 15 minutes.

Have fun planning!
