Can you imagine people trying to game the system with this?

How, exactly, is AA going to monitor and enforce this? Do allergy sufferers carry a doctor's note or some form of ID showing allergies?

Maybe next time I fly AA, I should tell the agent at the boarding gate that I have lactose intolerance so pretty please can I board priority.

This might not sound like a clout badge, but that's where you're wrong -- starting this December, American Airlines will allow priority boarding to anyone who suffers from peanut or tree-nut allergies, according to a report by Bloomberg. So, if you're not going into anaphylactic shock, your inability to digest pistachios is actually your ticket to luxury.

The new mandate will go into effect on December 12, when all flight-service manuals must be updated, giving any allergy-prone travelers ample time to wipe down their own seating areas before the remainder of the plane's passengers shove their way in. Apparently, the airline has faced a number of complaints in the past year from Food Allergy Research & Education, along with a lawsuit from a woman whose son has a life-threatening peanut allergy. Seems fair enough.

Do they still serve nuts on board? Australian airlines stopped serving them years ago as we have a high rate of nut allergies and no one really knows why.
I imagine people would need some type of letter.

The airlines should clean ALL seats between flights. The filth on some seats has been mind-boggling.

Who cares? I don't understand why anyone would want to sit on a plane any longer than they have to. Especially when the air circulation isn't on yet.

True (especially on those aisle seats y'all clamor for). But equally true of subway seats, restaurant sests, booster seats, rental car seats, etc etc etc. Those with worries about germs must be doing a lot of standing.

As for the peanut allergens, it's so nice to know that we're continuing to help the special snowflakes. Those with (and the inevitable abusers) can join The schmucks who have their fake service pets. (Please note that I used the word FAKE.)

Anyone I know who has a severe food allergy, peanuts or shellfish most common and severe ALWAYS carry an EPI pen, which is not cheap and need a prescription for so maybe that would be their proof

My son has a tree nut allergy and we do have an Epi pen. That being said, he’s lucky to only have an ingestion allergy, not to airborne allergens. So unless someone tries to shove an almond down his throat, we’ll be ok. I wouldn’t dream of using or gaming something like this for his condition.

My Dad is a 100% combat disabled Vietnam Vet (double amputee), I’ve seen the huge abuse and gaming of the system that’s come about with handicapped parking tags. Getting one of those is about as hard as getting a medical marijuana card in California.

your ticket price will go up. Can you imagine the time it would take to "clean" the seats between flights?!

Would you expect the Movie Theatre to clean all the seats between films??!!
