This article says eight days. A lot depends on where you're going in my opinion. Overseas I would want at least ten days. No matter where I go I want at least one day to recover when I get home. Two weeks is the absolute longest. What do you all think?

A lot of our friends agree with us that about four weeks is a good length for a trip overseas. Keeping in mind that we get at least four weeks annual leave, which can accrue, and that to go many places can involve a flight of at least twenty-four hours. I find longer than that is too much work before you go and when you return and that you get jaded. Close to home I would not call it a holiday, or vacation, unless it was a week or more. Shorter than that we tend to talk about a short break or a long weekend.

depends on the person / what you are escaping from / where you are going (city / countryside / region), and transportation modes. (donkey / hiking / jet)

3 weeks was always minimum for me to 'disconnect' when working.
I left for vacation directly from work parking lot and never returned earlier than necessary. Frequently arrived at work without time to go home first. Getting the MOST out of my time off.

3 months is better. I took an annual 3 month leave-without-pay for the first 10 yrs of employment. and a few 1 yr LOA subsequently. When living overseas, I would take a month without pay off 'pre-assignment' and a month 'After-assignment'. Since the company had paid for our family to get there and get home... the bulk of fare had been covered.

On the other hand... I take weekend trips nearly every weekend during our rainy season (9 months). Usually fly / drive.

FWIW, the current SWA Companion Pass offer is a very good deal (for remainder of this yr / offer expires 11 Feb). 140 free flights last yr for my companion.

I'd say 7-10 days for a domestic vacation is ideal. For international 10 days at a minimum. I probably couldn't take more than 3 weeks off from my job. I think those that take vacations over a month on a regular basis are in the minority in America, at least from what I know. Hard to take that much time off from work.

Domestic, a dew days or up to two weeks . If I am going overseas, I think 2 weeks is minimum, & a month is better. Now I am older, I don't bounce back from the jet lag so quickly so I need a few days, after landing, to reset my body clock.

Perfect length for us is 5-7 days. I have learned that anything much longer than that and we start to get on each others nerves. It's amazing that as soon as we're home again everyone heads off into a different part of the house, and just isolates themselves for a few solid hours.
