I was on a website recently, where you upload photo's of some place you've recently traveled to and someone uploaded almost 50 photo's of his tour of Chernobyl. Oh my God! Absolutely fascinating and so eerie at the same time! Abandoned apartment buildings, schools, houses, all falling apart. It was all fascinating enough to where you almost want to get in a plane and go over there and see it for yourself.

Anyone been there or wish to go there?

On the pro list, you won't be swamped with other tourists.

I'd go for it, but I'm 66 and have no plans to reproduce again. (Yes, I know radiation increases cancer risks in general.)

DH and I went to St. Petersburg, Russia on our honeymoon in 2003. The politics have changed since, of course, so I'm not sure if I'd want to visit Ukraine- but if I got to Kiev I'd definitely do a side trip to Chernobyl.

Is it one of the 100 places to see before you die? Ideally not much before you die?

I would like to go. Anthony Bourdain went. The episode was incredible.

I have been to Kiev many times and have no desire to go to Chernobyl. Wild horses couldn't drag me there.

What I remember most from that is that although it is deserted & derelict there is music piped in everywhere. A very eerie & surreal feature.

But no, Chernobyl isn't on my bucket list.

God, no. How sad. Why would anyone want to go to some place where there was and still is so much devastation - as a tourist. It seems insulting to the people who are there living this tragedy. I guess the only upside would be if it helped their economy. But, to go as a tourist to witness someone's tragedy? That seems kind of sick to me.

What is next after that - Times Beach, Love Canal, and the Hanford Site?
