I’m so excited I can’t let myself get too excited; as if I might jinx myself somehow!
The last time I went anywhere was in 2014 to Corpus Christi to see the ocean because it had been 13 years since I had gone anywhere before then. That involved 3 kids: 12 year old twin girls & my 10 year old severely autistic son & the dog in a 19 year old Nissan that broke down coming home on Raton Pass (NM) at midnight during an epic thunderstorm & downpour.
Thank you to Leo; the 29 year old guy from Roswell (Chihuahua) who loaded all 5 of us drenched people (& the dog) into his car & drove us home (I ignored his advances for the next two years on FB. I did try to tell him I had a kid his age & another seven in between the oldest & the three in his car but with the language barrier; I’m not sure that he understood. Sorry, Leo but I did do you a favor.)
Anyway, thanks to my dad; Luke & I get to go see his sisters HS band & orchestra play at Carnegie Hall! We will have a few opportunities to break away from the group & do Luke-type stuff. He wants to ride the subway & see Chinatown & eat pizza.
He’s spent years “in” NYC on Google Earth & he’s full of ideas! Yikes.
I am admittedly in some denial regarding the thought of Luke on an airplane. Yikes. But anyway, I’m so excited; Luke & I never get to do anything.
I can't tell if you are excited or apprehensive, or maybe both. In any case, I hope you all have a great trip.
A word of caution: New York's subways are LOUD! I don't know if this is an issue for either of you or not, but it's something that you should be aware of. They can also be very crowded, especially during rush hour but sometimes other times as well. Again, I don't know if having your personal space encroached upon is an issue for either of you, but there it is. And finally, make sure that you stand behind the yellow lines on the platform edges until the arriving train comes to a complete stop; you wouldn't want either of you to risk losing your balance and falling onto the tracks.
Just a few blocks up from Carnegie Hall is Central Park - it's vast & free & especially on weekends there are all sorts of people wandering around ( Last week of March weather can go to extremes either way - snowstorms or early spring or anywhere in between, check before you leave what to expect.)
Unclear how old your son is but there is a "hands on" type Children's Museum or the Natural History Museum if weather is bad. There are now also ferries for not much $$ along the East River that I usually take visitors on to go way downtown scenically & one can get on the Staten Island Ferry for free & ride past Miss Liberty. Downtown has Chinatown where food is inexpensive too, 9/11 memorial is about 15 minute walk from there.
And get some good pizza - Lombardi's is good & comfortable for a family. Enjoy!

Well; we will now. Leaving March 23 for NYC!
Awesome! So happy to hear you get to go. You might see my daughter there. She is going with her hs band and I think they are going to Carnegie Hall.

LOVE Lombardi's. If you ever come to Chicago, make sure to try Coal Fire.
