If you just want to save money cheapest option is to fly (under $500).as the cost of car rental,insurance ,gas,motels,3 meals a day will far outpace the cost of a plane ticket.

It took ten days but could have been faster if we'd strained ourselves. We took 70 and dodged big trucks the whole way. We went thru SLC and Reno. Good trip!

I usually follow this website https://travelsites.com/car-rental/ Lots of rent a car online. The helps to make my work easier. I don't have to search if I need any rent a car.
