I am booking a self-drive safari to Africa. The agent rents the vehicle on my behalf, adds camping gear and meets me at the airport. The agent is in Africa, I am in the US and I have done the entire transaction by email, but they have a very good reputation and I have already paid them. They requested a photocopy of my driver's license for the truck rental. I am a little nervous about that. If I decline, we have to go find a fax machine when I arrive and the agent will fax my DL to the car rental place, and then wait for approval before I can leave. I think it is all OK but wanted to get some feedback on this.

What would you do?

I think it is normal for rental car companies to want to see a driving licence.

I agree it is normal, but would you email a copy of your DL or would you insist on showing it to them there, even if it delays things a bit?

What's the difference? Either way, they are going to have a copy of your driver's license, which was submitted to them electronically.

Frankly, I'd feel safer emailing it directly to them than faxing it from the first shady shop in Africa that I found...

Agree. Hell, I would be more worried about the pre-payment!
