Yeah. I've absolutely had the scanners at Podunk Field pick up metal in an underwire bra back when I wore that type of undergarment. (I go for the wireless option these days)

If you do more than about 2-3 plane trips per year, Global Entry or TSA-PreCheck is so worth it for the marginal cost per flight that leads to significant reduction in security line annoyance.

I don't know if anyone else has this happen, but the TSA have confiscated my favorite hand-lotion conditioner (Which is made with hemp oil) multiple times and its like $20 for a little tube of the stuff. Really chaps my hide!

Even with my "air crew" ID.

I totally forget - can food be taken past the checkpoint?

Got a 10 hour flight and I am a really picky eater.

Yes, as long as it's not food that could be reasonably classified as a liquid or gel (such as soup or pudding). Stick with reasonably firm things and you'll be fine.

The TSA does tend to have intermittent wars on food (the scanners can get confused about some items) , but the end result is fishing the Clif Bar or bag of chips out of your bag and once they see it is indeed food, you're sent on your way.

Now this is what burns me up. I assume that it's under the maximum size and in a quart Baggie. Are they confiscating it because it's "drugs"? What the ^%%$#! business is that of theirs? They're supposed to confiscate items which present a danger to the flying public. Your hand lotion is not one of them.

Are you going 6 hours early because you expect problems with the contents of your baggage? No need. They might hand search, but once they see what everything is, they'll send you on your way. I don't think it's going to be as big a deal as you seem to think it will be.
