At times there are articles and discussion threads on the 'friendliest' places you've ever visited.

In all my travels internationally and in parts of the U.S., I don't think any place has struck me as being particularly friendly. I've been to Japan, Thailand, Germany, Mexico, and other places, and I haven't experienced anyone going out of their way to be nice to me.

Anyone else?

Interestingly, although next door to Armenia, Baku, Azerbaijan is easily the friendliest place I've ever traveled to.

Madrid, Spain - I was told by a gentleman that Madrid was “for me”.
Burgos, Spain - I have never been anywhere else where I have met people just so...contented and pleasant.
Chinchón, Spain - among the ruins, an elderly married couple wanting to share their memories of their courtship which made mine all the more memorable

Little things that meant so much to a complete stranger...

Oh, and Foley, Alabama - really!

Most local islanders in the Caribbean are laid back and friendly. Generally, the less busy and crowded the place is, the friendlier it is. You won’t find this same level of friendly in popular tourist spots. Some other notable places were Fuji, France, Thailand, Mexico, China, England. Even in places where I didn’t speak the language, a smile is universal.

Funny. In Vanadzor, Armenia, everyone was wonderful, the hotel staff, the other hotel guests, the townspeople, I felt very at-home there. And 25 years ago, everyone in China dropped what they were doing to see to our needs. I've heard it isn't like that anymore.
