My biggest travel peeve? Lineups!!! Mostly at airports.
in airports they shuffle you along like cattle to slaughter
1 to get the boarding pass
2 to get through security
3 to get to the gate to board
4 shuffling down the narrow hallways, then navigating the narrow aisles to your seat once you finally board
When I finally sit down after trying to find room for my small case in an overhead bin, I am exhausted.
5 lining up for the miniature, smelly bathrooms on the plane. Sometimes I can make it through the flight, sometimes no.
6 after landing, lining up to go through Immigration
7 lineups waiting for luggage at the carosels
8 lining up for taxis or shuttle buses outside the arrival gate
9 lining up at your motel to check in
Would you rather it was all just a free for all? No lining up, just pushing and shoving to get to wherever we are going?

Its not that. Its the feeling of not having any control over your body movement. Its what traveling is all about sense of freedom and many of us do not take restrictions and lines well. Lets face it the battle for seats on some airlines ( SW) as well as the free for all with overhead bin space makes for a unease flight at times along with the plane either too warm or too cold.
I have a better time not traveling and just watching a good movie or an episode of the Young and the Restless at home.
elevator dreamers. I always watch the numbers so I know when my stop is coming up, So many people act surprised when they reach their floor, & take forever to get off. Drives me mad.

The fight for overhead space is far worse on American and United than on Southwest. On Southwest, a much higher percentage of travelers just check their bags.

I sympathize with your sentiment. Took a four day junket to Vegas last month, haven't been there for maybe a dozen years. Had a great time, but it was DESPITE the resort fees (being charged to use a pool when it isn't open is a bit extreme, no?), 30% surcharge for food because it is "on the Strip", cattle-call in the airports, and airplane seats that reminded me of my first-grade desk). Even though the trip was fun, it will probably be a few years before I go back, traveling by air is simply much less pleasurable than it was just a generation ago. For me, and it is especially vexing as I now have the resources and time to travel, it's just more of a pain than pleasure to travel by air, it is quickly becoming not "worth it".

Thank you for your post as it reinforces my belief in how travel has changed over the years.
As I mentioned in my reply that we have been traveling for many years, early Vegas (80's for us) was wide open with deals, free parking and the rail transportation we could pick up at the MGM that took us to Bally's was free. My last trip in 2006 I do not remember resort fees but a quick check for planning a friends trip showed everywhere was doing it.
I know for those youngsters getting the traveling bug now all these fee's and travel annoyances are normal for them. They don't have anything to compare to as we older travelers do. I just smile now and think back to those good old days with empty redeyes and getting double mileage for air miles.
I find the calls hauntingly beautiful. They are extremely meaningful to Muslims.
Reminds me of last year camping at the lake we fish and camp at. It is an UN-organized campsite. No rules, no one tells you where to park, etc. A boisterous group of men were up partying most of the night, hooting and hollering at their bonfire, keeping us awake until quite late.
I get up early, and about 7 am I went outside our travel trailer and starting singing as close to Muslim singing style as possible, and as LOUD as possible. They all woke up, came outside and were packed up and gone by 9 am LOL
What comes around...
