I don't mind a little bit. But Tybee, Sedona, Kauai, Key Largo, etc. all have VERY little.
That kind of place.

Crime is in every area. Most tourist type places aren't in the "run down" parts of town. Weird people are everywhere. Haven't you noticed?

There are murderers even in Maine: https://www.pressherald.com/2019/04/17/ph-smith-0418/

So what are you really looking for?

Why not Mexico?
Cancun is still by far the hot (and inexpensive) tourist spot in that area of the world.
I actually think it's fine as long as you stay in the hotel zone.

For the people that don't like a mega-resort, Isla Mujeres is just a short ferry ride from there...

LOL! Cape May, Wildwood Crest and Diamond Beach are nothing like that. That's way up north.

Key Largo was a bit steep ($275 or so at the Hilton). But we found some good deals for Tybee and Kauai. We stay at the in-laws in Sedona, but we've found good deals when staying a bit north and south of there ($150-175).

Heck, even St Pete itself is very clean and devoid of street begging and visible homelessness, at least in the main downtown area. It's almost eerie for such a big American city to be missing that grittiness.
Isn't this the headquarters of Scientology? the pretend religion?

Think it is Clearwater area that is bought up by Scientology to spite the locals that
didn't appreciate the pretend religion enough.

Jeez, you're right. And Scientology is even sketchier than prostitutes, drugs or abandoned buildings.
