You've got either a Monday or a Friday off...but not both. You're ready for a short vacation/trip somewhere.

Where is the farthest you would travel away from your home for 3 days and 2 nights (to what place)?

Are you flying or driving? And what would you plan to see/do?

(Edited to add: Assume money/cost is no issue.)

We did JFK to Nashville on a 3 day weekend

Flying obviously

Was fun. Ate, drink, saw music, walked around East Nashville, bar-hopped on Honky Tonk Highway

Great trip

I've traveled from San Diego to New York City for 3 days. This weekend we will be driving 6 hours to the Sierras to do some spring skiing and will be gone 3 days and 2 nights. My husband and I like to getaway even if it is just for a couple of days and we don't mind flying or driving to do this.

mileage run to Singapore, or Bangkok. ~25,000mi. rt. (flight)
International Date Line allows you to depart Asia at 8AM and fly 20 hrs and arrive to work in western USA at 8AM the same day.

Can leave SFO at 10 pm on Thursday (after work), arrive Asia 8AM Saturday, spend the weekend (2 days) in Asia, hop a flight at 8AM Monday morning and be home (in USA) on Monday morning in time for work.

In 2000 I got an e-mail from Continental Airlines offering Award travel on their new Newark-Rio nonstop for 17,500 OnePass miles per person- round trip. DH and I grabbed it. Both were redeyes; left Thursday night, arrived Friday AM, flew home Sunday night and arrived Monday morning. Great trip (although DH, who was over 5 feet tall, said he'd never fly that long in Coach again) and they never repeated that offer.

One of the VERY few things I miss about living in NJ is having a home airport with nonstops to so many international destinations.

Usually, somewhere within two hours of flying from Northern California:: Las Vegas, Seattle, Los Angeles, San Diego, Portland, Phoenix, etc.

Driving, maybe head to San Luis Obispo, Mammoth Lakes, or Napa County (wineries).

Never are than a 2 hour flight, or a 4 hour drive.

I think my longest at this point for that short of a time period would be Vegas, I've been for just 3 days once before.

Driving... at this point probably the longest I would do would be 8 hours. Why? Because the Appalachians are about 8 hours away. Assuming I still have my present schedule, I could leave Tampa Bay after work on a Thursday, drive nonstop and be in the mountains by just after midnight. Stay, go on hikes, hang around town all day Friday and Saturday, maybe even do a brief morning hike Sunday. Then, drive back comfortably, with maybe a nice stop for food in Atlanta, and still be home by around dinner to relax, unpack, watch TV and prepare for the week. New Orleans is borderline doable within that time frame too, but maybe just a hair too much.

Flying... Probably London. Not that other Euro cities don't hold appeal also, but there's that whole nonstop flight thing. Could do red eye on a Thursday after work, be in by Friday morning and have two full days, and then even leave mid day or so Sunday and still be home by night in order to sleep and get into work in the morning. This of course, being predicated on the fact that as you mention, costs aren't a factor : )

About 350 miles. I have unlimited standby on one of the legacy carriers, but hate the airline experience so much that I've never used it. I RV or I don't go -- so 350 is about the max that I'm willing to drive on a Friday thru Monday trip.
