What do YOU think are "must see" cities? (France, Spain)

So I don't disagree with all the major "must see" places listed, at least for others. I'm older & have limited time available & so my own personal "must see" list to fit in before the crypt keeper sings my name (in no particular order):
Georgetown, Penang
Porto
Split & the Dalmatian Coast
(....& just south of there) Montenegro
Lagos - Tavira - Alvor in the Algarve (that's next week!)
Tucson
San Miguel de Allende
Slovenia
Tokyo
Granada, Spain
Sante Fe, NM

Wow, I am Portuguese, Slovenian and have lived in Tucson. Never been to Slovenia though.

They say Slovenia & Istria are basically uncrowded Italy... if I can be really reductive to make a point, & lots of the Croatian Dalmation coast too if you avoid Dubrovnik & the cruise ship ports, I was there decades ago & always wanted to return, gorgeous.
I'm spending the next month in Portugal. I'm breaking all my rules for travel too: I'm going to visit during the high season & I plan to travel around all the major areas rather than focus on 1-2 places which I typically do.
Why?
Because I was so impressed with my initial visit to Lisbon a few years ago & I've always considered moving overseas, now that I'm retired I felt I needed to get a feel for the different regions to see if this could be the place, even if it's just for a "second home" type place. So I will probably spend 2-4 days in about 6 places & a week in Lisbon. And I wasted a lot of time before returning & so decided I had to just "do it".. so why not now before the really big crowds show up in July/August. I'm going to the "beachy" areas first hopefully before the crowds really arrive in force.
Probably go to Tucson & environs in January with similar motives.
I spent a week in Prague on business. That needs to be on the list. It’s an unspoiled time capsule where the 20th century doesn’t intrude. Great classical music scene.
It’s not really city but I’ve been to Colmar and done the route du vin in Alsace a bunch of times. I used to work in Frankfurt a lot and I’d hit Alsace in my down time. Scenic green mountains with vineyards and walled medieval villages.
If we’re keeping it to major cities and I’m spending my own money as a tourist, my top 3 would be London, Paris, Rome. From Boston, I doubt I’d get to Asia, Australia, and New Zealand again. Too far to do it in an economy seat and I really can’t afford lie flat business class.

We loved Portugal as well, definitely one of our favorite places. Check out Ericeira, that place is great.

It's on my list between Cascais & Porto, debating on train or car between these points. Trains are so easy & you're not isolated like in a car by oneself. But the car offers freedom of schedule & movement, still mulling it over. (...and did I just read yesterday somewhere there is a threat of a strike of 1- rail workers & 2 - fuel truck drivers at the end of this month? Could make it very interesting trying to get around...)
