What ever standard you consider acceptable, what country can you meet that standard at the lowest day-to-day cost, on the ground. Consider lodging and food, day to day for a couple of weeks, moving about and visiting several varied places, but not to-from fare.

India comes first to mind but it might not be. Feel free to nominate one for each continent.

Tier 6 - if they don't chop your head off with a machete.

Sorry, but I think the SO I had minimal effect on the cost of tourism.

Reading OP's question, I immediately thought of several places in SE Asia. Several lists agree.

There are other lists that include other countries, but they don't necessarily meet my "standard that is acceptable" which includes my safety. Nor am I backpacking or sleeping in dorm room hostels .

Read the OP. If your usual standard is 5-star hotels, what country has the cheapest 5-star hotels. Not interested in what you think of hostels, if thet are not your customary lodging.

Angola is Tier 6 and may be the most expensive in the world. So is North Korea

Well, Cambodia is the cheapest I've been to, but I'm sure there are cheaper too.

Thailand is pretty darn cheap. A cab ride is around a dollar. These are food prices

Odessa Ukraine is pretty cheap especially in the shoulder season. Taxi from Odessa airport to downtown was about 8 bucks. Good restaurant with drinks about the same. Decent 3 star hotel ranged from 20 to 40 depending on location. Its starting to fill up with pensioners on vacation though and occupancy rates are rising. I'm guessing it won't be so cheap this summer.

It's odd that such cheap travel bargains are found in Europe, but I don't know of anywhere that is clearly cheaper than Moldova, Ukraine, Armenia and Georgia.
