At 5 foot 9 inches tall, I fill out most of the seat on modern airplanes in economy class. My knees hit the seat back in front of me. I feel cramped. But what really bothers me is how narrow the seats are. Especially in a middle seat, it is hard to survive sitting so close horizontally to the people sitting next to me. It is claustrophobic!

What bothers you more when you fly: the arrow seat or the lack of leg room? And does it really bother you?

At 6', I feel legroom is the bigger problem on domestic flights.

On international flights both are problematic. Narrow seats will become very uncomfortable on longer flights.

I'm short but plus sized. Definitely the narrow seats bother me more.

^^^Ditto. I care more about a wider seat than about more leg room. But that doesn't mean I don't sympathize with the taller folks whose concerns are the other way around!

(Does it really bother me? Well, I've taken to paying for Domestic First Class or International Business Class for a reason...)

They both suck, but the seats are ridiculous.

The legroom

The joints in my legs start to hurt sometimes from being so constrained during long flights. I have to take pain medicine for it.

I am tiny so neither is an issue as long as the person next to me isnít spilling into my seat.

only 6', so...

spilling into my seat. ...

^^^
There should be an 18" passage gage, or same width as seat... any overage = 2 seats (or 3...)

They could do this with lasers!

I do find it annoying that people 'recline' on 6 hr and shorter flights.
Lower 48 state flights should not have reclining seats. (IMHO)

I want both; however, of the two options, I would definitely prefer a wider seat. I want more room between the passenger(s) to my side and me. Also, I get very uncomfortable if I can't shift myself in my seat and turn ever-so-slightly sideways.

More legroom helps primarily tall people, but wider seats benefit people of all heights.
