Alaska is not a continental state. It’s attached to Canada although it’s USA. That’s one reason I didn’t choose ut.

I winder if they were thinking of Grand Marais, Minnesota?

Been through Rangely many times, used to be the quickest shortcut between Montreal and The Maritimes.

Maine - along the coast anywhere from Kittery to Bar Harbor. Travelled it many times. Frequented Boothbay Harbor.
Outer Banks, NC - only went there once camping at Camp Hatteras in Rodanthe, and I loved it. Drove from Kitty Hawk to Hatteras.
Las Vegas - just fun, seedy, whatever. Been there several times.
Oahu - my daughter was stationed there for 3 years (Captain, Army, nurse) so I visited there twice in 3 years for 3+ weeks each. Got to know the island. Loved it.
Southern New Jersey - from Atlantic City to Cape May and Wildwood in between, I just love it there. Have camped down there several times, staying 10 mi. north of Cape May.
