Motel 8 or Motel 6? (trips, location, drive, Texas)

Best " bang for the buck" was a Motel 6 just off I-20 in Oxford Alabama. (about 6 years ago)


$29 for 2 adults ( wife and myself)

The wife is fussy ( I'm not) and she even liked it.

Motel 8. I have stayed in motel 6 before, and they seem to be cheap.

There are a lot of inconsistencies among the same motels in a chain. If Quality Inn is in your price range, my husband, who travels a lot in the south, has found them to be usually consistent and reliable..and you get breakfast. Some of the Days Inns have been pretty good lately, too. To him, the free breakfast thing is important.

I used to work for a national 1-800 reservation line while in high school. If you want to save money if you book over the phone, don't just book the room on the price they give you. There is almost always some kind of discount, whether its Triple A, AARP, or some sort of random discount...unless there is a really big event in the area. It's crazy how many just book the room on the price I would quote them.

Another tip...Most hotels only have a local number, not a toll free number...If you don't want to use cell phone minutes or get a long distance charge, the reservation agent on the line can put you on hold, and call the hotel directly if you have any specific questions...

Motel 6 is generally the cheapest chain. Sometimes you can find cheaper, locally run Motels, but generally Motel 6 is the cheapest deal around.

Possible Motel "6" was a off shoot of old Hwy "66" starting in the mid west " Get your kicks on old 66", along with the old Burma Shave signs I used to see on my first trip to Calif in summer of 1947. Steve
