Just curious--how high are the property taxes? Everyone's definition of high is different, obviously.

Well, it depends on where you live. In Austin, taxes are about 2.5-3.2% of the appraised value which is based on actual sales in the area. A large portion of that goes to fund the school districts. Obviously, the more populated areas have a higher tax and of course the home valules are higher too. More rural areas have lower home values and hence the taxes are lesser based on that. My taxes for a modest home run me close to $5000 a year.
