I have visited Kentucky's highest point on Black Mountain several times. There is a large radar station on the top whose clearing provide spectacular
views, including the Smokey Mountains on clear days
This is a special place to me for other reasons: 4 generations of the family lived on Black Mountain, there is still an old estate in Rock House, KY where my great grandfather lived. My grandfather working in the coal mines at the foot of the mountain for over 40 years.
I have also visited TN's high point in Smokey Mountain NP.
Ahhhh, Mt. Washington sounds so nice right now. I've never been there but I hope to get there at least once in my life.
Ahh, it's not likely to be so nice right now. I might consider winter climbing exhilirating, challenging, maybe even fulfilling in a way, but I don't think "nice" is the word I'd use to describe it. If you want nice, go there in July or early August. Even then, make sure to take some warm clothes, so you don't die of hypthermia if a cold blast rips in (I'm serious--it can happen, though usually it's nice).
