Default Travel Tip

We've been to Hawaii several times and all during our first stay there I was paranoid someone would pop the trunk of the rental and steal the camera & wallet while we were snorkling.

Then, I had a great idea (which I'm sure others have done, but since I though of it independently, I'm gonna take credit).

I bought a nonworking digital camera for a couple of bucks at the Goodwill, along with a $1 wallet. I put some voided plastic cards (for food stores...) in it and left a couple of dollar bills about 15% out so the could just be seen. The real goods were in the spare tire compartment. For a quich "grab & dash" they'll take the fake stuff and a couple of dollars, leaving behind the good stuff.

What?! No. That was my idea! I patented it, so you couldn't have thought it up on your own. That would have been illegal! Shame, shame, for shame.

Okay, I confess I lied. Good idea and I'm now going to use it. Thanks!!

That's good unless your car gets stolen. I don't leave anything in my car that I wouldn't mind forgetting and accidentally leaving on a bus.

But if you are within sight of your car then it's a little better.

In Hawaii, theft from rental vehicles is rampant! NEVER leave anything of value in your rented car!!!!
