I've been to cities like Houston. Now,I want to try something different.

How about El paso? West Texas seems to be mysterious, is it supposed to be different?
Any nice destinations to visit?

Thanks.

I suggest you visit the hill country around Fredericksburg area. From there you casn travel to many places like the YO ranch ;go tubing down the rivers there ;visit the Alamo and other historic small town nearby.Alot of the area is mostly german towns once you get north of san antonio. Thwere is alot to do in fredericksburg in evenigns and lazy days like teh museum of the pacfic war since admiral Nimitz was born and raisded there.Texas is huge place but this is about the most popular area with people that live in the state. There is alot of contrasting areas in Texas. Google Teaxs hillcountry trail.

Also check out Palo Duro Canyon up out of Amarillo (closer to Canyon, TX but the "big city" in that area is Amarillo). It is beautiful in the Canyon.

Fort Stockton and the MacDonald Observatory is another fun place to go out in West Texas.

The Hill Country, Fredericksburg, etc are also great. Then go further down south west of San Antonio to the Frio River area around Concan, TX and Garner State Park. BEAUTIFUL and clear as can be at night. This area is still part of the "hill country" but it is in the lower part of it. Lost Maples State Park is another treasure in this area.

You can spend a lifetime checking out every corner of Texas. It is much more varied than most realize.

If you are going through Abilene at all, you have to stop by "Harold's Pit-Bar-B-Que" If I recall correctly it is on Walnut street between 13th and 14th street. Don't let the exterior fool you, it is GOOD. Sure there are some better known places around, but I really liked this place when I was down that direction "eating my way across Texas." I'll agree on the Hill country as well, it isn't what most people think of when Texas is mentioned.
