What's The Scoop On Dubai??
I was in line at the Ross store the other day, and I couldn't help hearing the conversation of the person checking out in front of me. She was purchasing an oversized luggage set, and was chattering to the clerk about her trip. The clerk nodded in agreement about several points and said what a great time she had while visiting. Then they spoke about the heat, and when they mentioned 112 degrees, I assumed they were speaking of Arizona. My ears perked up a bit, as I wanted to give my reminiscence about the desert as well. Turns out they were talking about Dubai. I was very surprised.
Is Dubai that common of a destination where not one but two people in a southern department store have been there or planning to go there??
Anyone been there or know of people planning a trip?? Interesting.

Have you seen what is going on in Dubai? The world islands, palm islands, biggest buildings - the burj. Do yourself a favor and type in Dubai in google images. I would love to go there but it is expensive. It looks simply unbelievable, they are making the 8th wonder of the world there. Amazing.

It's not so expensive since we Americans are paying for it with our oil money. For example gasoline there is about 12 cents a gallon.
It is beautiful to see what unlimited amounts of money can buy. Very opulent country.
The important thing to realize is that Dubai is very regulated. You do not have the freedoms that you have in the USA.

I went to Dubai in 2006, there was a lot of construction going on then. It is a place that is a bit different from your visit to Europe or Asia because of the desert. Things to do are enjoy the great beaches, sailing in a "dhow" down Dubai Creek, visiting the gold souk and of course the highlight - driving to Hatta for a Desert Safari. This is basically a lot of 4WD action in the desert...jumping over and sliding down the sand dunes, spectacular stuff
There are also some bizzare attractions like a humungous indoor snow resort where you can go snowboarding! Also check out the Ibn Batuta Mall if you go there!

Yeah, I saw some pictures that showed all of these houses set on a peninisula, or whatever it was that backed up to the water and most if not all of the houses had swimming pools. It looked quite opulent. In the same set of photos, you can see the curve of the earth from a building construction site. I'm gonna try to find the pix, funny enough, someone emailed them to my dh.
Update: I can't get the pictures - so sorry.
