Hi there,

We're planning a road trip from New Hampshire to Niagra Falls and could use recommendations on:

1. Best place to get a room for the night on the way there. We're thinking of stopping in Albany.
2. Sights to see on the way.
3. Restaurants on the way
4. Where to stay when we get there.

Thank you!

the only thing i would say is stay on the Canada side--that is where the real view is. i wouldnst spend more than a day or 2 in Niagara falls, cause its very commercial and not much to do that you cant do and see in that short period.
the falls are magnificent.
i cant remember the hotel we stayed at, but i can try to find it. it had free breakfast included, and it was just a walk away from everything.

Great information. Are you familiar with Seneca Hotel and Casino?

Why stop on the trip there? From anyplace in NH to Niagara Falls is less that 9 1/2 hours drive time. If you are in the Portsmouth area it is only a little over 7 hours. And I agree that you might want to spend a day or two tops there because it is one giant tourist trap now.

View from the Marriott (Canadian side) is pretty good. Though this is not my photo, the view we had was nearly identical:

If you have time, you might consider driving a section of the seaway trail. Most of it is through small towns hugging Lake Ontario but it is beautiful.

A wonderful place nearby is Niagara on the Lake which is a small town full of little shops, vineyards and B&B's. My dad lives in PA about two hours from Niagara Falls so we drive there all the time. Growing up no one went on the NY side since the Canadian side was so clean and full of amazing flowers. But now they have cleaned up the NY side and it is very nice. You can get right next to the american falls and it is clean and nice now. We generally now go to both sides.

I think the user is asking what to do on the way there, not what to do WHEN they're there

This is a Lazarus thread from 2008, but I will say this:

If you are crossing over from the United States into Canada in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls region, do NOT go over at Rainbow Bridge, unless you just like the idea of sitting in traffic for 3-4 hours. The far preferable route is to cross at Buffalo at the Peace Bridge. You'll be across into Canada, cleared through customs, checked into your hotel, and taking snaps at Horseshoe Falls in the same amount of time it takes you to even go half a mile on Rainbow Bridge.
