Most of the places you'll probably want to visit in the Bahamas or Latin America will be tourist places...so you won't stretch the US dollar much there. Things in Mexico (Cancun, Los Cabos, Playa del Carmen) will be somewhat cheaper, but not to make a huge difference. There are some beautiful places around Cancun in Mexico and as long as you aren't going in the Summer or during Spring Break, it won't be the teenage spring break crowd...its actually quiet and romantic.

The Bahamas are ok. We've been to a few on cruises and haven't been super impressed. We've also been to Puerto Rico and Jamaica...not impressed with those either. Pretty areas but you can't take a step off of the resort property without feeling unsafe. We actually had a local come on property with a machete in his hand while in Jamaica (not going after tourist...going after the security guard.)

My favorite place close to the states is Maui (Hawaii)...a lot of people go there on their honeymoon, but there is a reason for that. Its incredible. The dollar won't go far, but I think its worth every penny! Check out the Grand Wailea Resort if you're interested in that area.

I don't know anything about the prices, but my son and his girlfriend are planning to get married and honeymoon in St. Lucia. They're still researching other places but so far, this is first on the list.

They've vacationed before in Cancun and Playa del Carmen and prefer PDC much more than Cancun. One reason was because it wasn't as touristy, more peaceful in general.

If you want something closer to home, i suggest visiting Nova Scotia (Cape Breton Highlands) or Newfoundland (Gros Morne National Park) in Canada.

Gros Morne is fairly remote and absolutely breathtaking. A private tour on the Western Brook pond will be very romantic.

A drive through the Cabot trail brings the Scottish highlands closer to home. Tons of cottages on the ocean side cliffs! All you see from the cottage is miles and miles of the Atlantic Ocean!

Been to all the places i have mentioned. Very friendly people and places one should visit in their lifetime.

How about an All Inclusive resort in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. You can get a really good deal online that is Airfare inclusive. You would have all of the free drinks and food you could stomach, all in a beautiful beach setting

The Dominican Republic is a beautiful island. We went to Sosua (on the North Coast) - more expatty less touristy for two weeks and enjoyed ourselves and the local beach. To be on the Caribbean side you'd want to stay on the East Coast - but then the prices go up considerably as it is all luxury resorts, etc.

I would also recommend Thailand. We went to Bangkok, Phuket and Koh Samui for our honeymoon. Al have since got more commercialised - we went 8 years ago. But they don't call it the Land of Smiles for nothing. Everyone I know that has been to Thailand says they want to go back!!!

We had a 4-country-tour on our honey moon 4 years ago.

We went to visit Bangkok, Hongkong, Singapore and Bali.
I was most impressed by Bangkok and Hongkong and if you want to stay in the coastal area, Thailand has really really beautiful islands and beaches.

Very cheap holiday (if you neglect the flights lol). We went out for dinner one night in Bangkok and had big dishes for four people inlcuding drinks for about 20 USD. So go figure...
