Here my suggestions all three you will be able to do but I am not sure about crabbing at Myrtle or Charleston.

Myrtle is a good beach if you are looking for a beach with wide variety of amusement activities.

Charleston if you want a relaxing good classic Southern heritage southern style beach relaxation

Wilmington if you are looking for a relaxing beach but the downtown can be romantic walking the boardwalk and streets

Dont rule out beaches near Savannah. Savannah is fun during the Halloween Season
great ghost walking tours
Ride a Hertz Tours
horse drawn carriage ride
Read the book Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil and let your mind just wonder

You can definately crab at Myrtle Beach! We've done it before and the crabs are good. October is a good time to go to Myrtle Beach. At your age, I would choose MB over the other two. It definately has more entertainment. I don't know where you're from, but to me it compares to the boardwalks up north. It is very inexpensive compared to other place too. We get a room with a kitchen for 5 days for $125. You even get breakfast and the rooms are clean too. It's directly on the beach too.

Just so you know, Myrtle Beach will be slow in October. Many of the "touristy" things will close down near the beach. Personally, I just don't like the beach area there.

Charleston beaches and area imo are much nicer. Charleston is a very neat town with lots to do. We usually stay at at Folly Beach and drive into Charleston. We have also stayed right downtown in the historical district which is a lot of fun. There are great restaurants and bars in the area.

You might be able to go onto VRBO dot com ( vacation rentals buy owners) and get a super deal this time of year for any of the places you are looking at. There are some great beach places and others for cheaper than a hotel room! We use the site quite a bit.

I hope you have a great trip and happy birthday! Let us know what you decided to do.

Where exactly did you crab at myrtle? Did you use crab traps or did you wait till dark and caught them while they were on land? also, where did you stay at? that seems verry cheap for 5 days!!!!!!

OOOH, since I told my friends that I was planning on going to the beach for my birthday, they all wanted to go too. Two of my friends work for Hilton, so It would be a goood discount for about 12 of us to go. now I just got to get a room booked for all 12 of us!!!!!!! i just need to book 3 rooms with double beds since its all couples going. This is so frustrating!!! But hopefully it will be fun. Where's the cheapest place you can buy live crab? So on the way home I can bring some back home?
