Any suggestions for a mid-December vacation to a warm climate?
We are in NYC looking to go somewhere with our child for a few days. Want a resort on a beach, but the weather has to be warm enough to swim. Hoping for a not too long flight. Any ideas?

I live in south Florida - east coast near Fort Lauderdale. When we want to get away for a few days, we go to Sanibel, Naples, or Marco Island. Actually, while I love Sanibel and the shelling, the sand is nicer in Naples and Marco.

Thank you. We were originally considering Lido Beach Resort off of Sarasota, but it seems that it's not warm enough in Dec to swim in the ocean. Is that the case?

Lido is an excellent choice. Take a look at the temperature table US NODC Coastal Water Temperature Guide
There is a Holiday Inn right on Lido which you may like.

Thanks again. It looks like it's too cold for beach swimming in Dec. Hopefully, we can plan a trip there for another season. I'm now thinking about the Dominican Republic for Dec.

If you haven't been to St. Maarten/St. Martin, give it a try. There are direct flights from NY and Newark. 37 beaches, great food, and many nice resorts. On the French side, Grand Case has a nice beach for children and excellent gourmet food. On the Dutch side, Belair and Divi have excellent beaches for children.

Lol, thats easy. Arizona.
Seriously, theres always the tropics. Arizona or Florida would be secondary if you cant afford to go anywhere else.
Me, winter isnt winter unless there's snow. Id go to Canada.

We've been to the Bahamas for Thanksgiving and the British Virgin Islands in January, and both were pleasant swimming.
